I was going over some stuff at home, precisely making room for some new clothes. I have read somewhere that “If it’s in your closet and has been unused for the past six months, it’s time to bid farewell” Not sure if the words are right but hope you get the intention here. So I try to clean my closet once every 4 months to see if there’s any piece of clothing that I am unwilling to give up manifesting on an amazing occasion that I might use it for. A little delusional.
Although my female family members might strongly disagree about the silk sarees they preserve.
Anyways, when I was doing that, I stumbled upon a cheerful dress that I bought at “Ross” which was $15 back in 2016 for “you only live once, wear new clothes for every goddamn occasion”. Could’ve been just a road trip to Raleigh to see some fall colours.
But oh my! My attitude and audacity back then to buy a million clothes just to have a picture at every corner of the United States and for what? Look at me now in Pjs and kurti patiala, repeating. Rearranging scarves and mom pants to look pleasant and not homeless.
Also as I grew up, I realised places matter to me not clothes, and definitely not opinions. If someone is uncomfortable with me in the same outfit twice, I am more than happy to move on. And did you know that it takes 3781 litres of water to make a pair of jeans?!
I now reduce, reuse, repeat, recycle, upcycle, donate. Do everything possible to save them from ending up in landfill. I am not ashamed or proud of it. It’s a lifestyle I chose to live. Also I definitely don’t buy tons of material to upcycle anything, just a scarf here and used hair band there to make things working, I am not creative so I try not to venture into the fashion business. Working and feel good is what I am trying to be all about when it comes to buying clothes 🙂
For now and probably always my interest would be to travel and enjoy every bit of the chaos in planning and execution. Trying to make it more environment friendly.
Hope someday I will make travelling my work and other things my hobby.
